History

Conceived by renowned architect Walter Burley Griffin in the early 1900s, Leeton was part of the grand Murrumbidgee Irrigation Scheme. Stroll through its historic streets to admire Art Deco landmarks like the Roxy Theatre, a cinematic treasure since 1930.

Celebrating its artistic legacy, the Australian Art Deco Festival Leeton, initiated in 2020, pays homage to the culture of the Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression era. The festival is a lively mix of Prohibition Parties, Speakeasy’s music, dancing, and Gatsby-themed galas.

Outdoor Attractions  

When filled with water, the Ramsar-recognised Fivebough and Turkey Flat wetlands attract over 170 different bird species. Get close to the vibrant local birdlife from specialised birdwatching platforms near Turkey Flat’s picnic area. Leeton also celebrates its agrarian roots with the biennial Leeton Sunrice Festival, featuring unique events like the Balloon Glow and Leeton’s Longest Lunch. Other happenings include the Leeton Farmers Market, the Leeton Show, and the miniature railway rides in Yanco, operating on the last Sunday of each month.
